Anyone else been stocking up their flybox?  It is that time of year.

Nice looking fly!

What kind of dubbing are you using for the thorax that will float the fly well? And is that elk hair that you are using for the wings?

Thanks.

Thanks Mark.

I have used several different brands of dry fly dubbing and never had a problem with any of them floating this fly. On these PMD's I used Spirit River Fine and Dry dubbing. It works well. I have used Trout Hunters Dry fly dubbing with good results also. The CDC fibers I use in the tail provide some floatation as well.

You could certainly use elk hair for the wing, but I usually use Nature's Spirit comparadun deer hair.

This pattern does well for me, but if I come up against a fish that gives me the refusal I have a version on which I use a CDC wing that I will tie on and that usually finishes the job.

Thanks Benji,

What are some of your favorite BWO patterns for this river?

Well truth be told my favorite BWO pattern is this exact same fly in BWO colors. It seems to work when fish are taking anything from late stage emergers to duns. I also really like cripple patterns like Harrop's Last Chance Cripple or Quigley Cripple.
